My guide to Devon coffee shops

Updated: May 16, 2020

As a real coffee shop lover, here is my list of the best places to go in South Devon (South Hams)

The Lemon Tree - Teignmouth ££

Quiet city centre coffee shop in a friendly environment

My pick: a classic latte

The plus: gluten-free menu available

The Cornish Bakery - Totnes ££

It’s a chain of restaurants primary offering home-made pasties. Very friendly staff!

My pick: a latte and cheese scone (with clotted cream and jam of course)

The plus: wifi access, quiet

Coffee Couture - Totnes ££

I strongly suggest this coffee (I even had a trial shift there!). Huge range of activities, from salsa trainings, gin bar to venue hiring.

My pick: a cappuccino with a gluten-free Lemon Drizzle cake.

The plus: spacious and charismatic building

Endsleigh Garden Center - Ivybridge ££

Whether you’re on a break from a shopping spree or just visiting, the big coffee shop is a must.

My pick: a latte and a chocolate-orange brownie.

The plus: huge range of affordable cakes and pastries

Bayard's Kitchen - Dartington ££

Whilst having a walk around Dartington Shops, enjoy a nice break in this cosy coffee shop.

My pick: a latte and a scone (+clotted cream and jam!)

The plus: inside kids' playing area

The Rowan Tree - South Brent ££

Cosy coffee shop in a small town run by a family with friendly staff.

My pick: a latte

The plus: wifi access

The Plant Cafe - Exeter £££

100% vegan or vegetarian snacks and beverages.

My pick: almond latte with a mix of salads

The plus: amazing view on Exeter Cathedral

And a few pubs…

The Turtley Corn Mill: great gastro pub - Avonwick £££

I worked there for a while and strongly advise you to stop by and have lunch/dinner. It is spacious, has a typically British atmosphere and offers high-quality food made by a talented cooking team.

My pick(s): a full English for breakfast, quesadilla for lunch and full-on Sunday roast, of course.

The plus: there is a big park with birds (geese, peacocks, chickens and ducks) which is ideal for kids, a giant outside chess set and a mini-lake where you can hire a dingy.

The Dartmouth Inn: yummy and affordable roasts - Totnes ££

I went there with my family just before Christmas and enjoyed the decoration and atmosphere which is very cosy.

My pick: full Sunday roast (carving, buffet vegetables)

The plus: spacious and you can have private functions or office parties

And many more to come...
