Agatha Christie book reviews

Yes, I am late to the game, but I am now officially addicted to Agatha Christie's gripping crime mysteries. I love her fast-paced writing style and the variety of characters but foremost the incredible settings she treats us with.

For my first Christie read, I had to go traditional with the trusted Murder on the Orient Express, courtesy of M. Hercule Poirot. As much as following 12 characters was challenging in terms of memorisation, it also added depth to the mysterious alibis and clues. No one would expect such a fantastic ending, I personally had incriminated M. Bouc...

My second pick was And Then There Were None. Aside from being known as her ground-breaking crime mystery, it is also set in a very familiar location. Devon is the home of Burgh Island which I had the chance to visit quite a few times; now that I am a Christie fan, I will definitely pay more attention in the future. I would qualify this novel as mostly psychological, it even got me dreaming of the plot and clues a few times. Again, my suspicions were not right as I had imagined a possible evil twin behind the murders.

Rating: 4/5

Third was 4.50 from Paddington, under the famous Miss Marple series. A fantastic plot, easily summarised as "a woman witnesses a murder on a passing train" which convinced me to pick up this detective novel. The pacing was different from the previous two novels as it involved many detectives throughout the story. Miss Marple wasn't enough involved in the plot in my opinion, I will have to read another book from the series to make out a better judgment.

Rating: 3.5/5
