My 2021 bookshelf #1: Prada & Potatoes

Updated: Mar 20, 2021

This Time Next Year, Sophie Cousens

Provenance: gifted by one of my best friends

Format read: paperback

A book packed with life lessons, small and big, and so well written that some chapters make it impossible to put down. I liked the jump between past and present as it gave more depth to the characters and their relationships.

Rating: 4 stars

The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren Weisberger

Provenance: self-bought

Format read: new paperback edition

Late to the game, but really glad I finally got to read this book. It’s very unusual for me to read a book after seeing the movie, but I enjoyed delving deeper into the characters through the author’s descriptions of characters, relationships and places. It definitely made me want to visit New York.

Rating: 4 stars

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

Provenance: self-bought

Format read: e-book

One of the best books I’ve read recently. Although I was sceptical of its format at first, it was so enjoyable to follow the characters through letters, telegrams and other correspondence types. Aside from being beautifully written, it is also so well researched that I have learned so much about the German occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War. The story behind the birth of this book is also very moving as it encourages every reader to contribute to the story in their own way. I can now finally watch the movie adaptation...
